Meditation transcript:
Hi, it’s Mary Kate again from “You, Me, & Ennui.” Thank you for listening to my conversation with Chris Lawton about our relationship with work! Whether you are passionate about what you do for a living, or if you have the time and resources to pursue your passion outside of work, I hope you found some part of our conversation a worthwhile listen.
If you’re looking for more ways to relate our conversation to your life, we’re back with another “bonus meditation” that will offer you some questions to reflect on… some might apply to you, some might not, and that’s OK! I’ll pause briefly between each question, but if you need more time, just hit the pause button and take as long as you need. Try to find a comfortable position with your feet on the floor and close your eyes.
Explore the impact you want to make in the world. Is there a cause that could benefit from your expertise? Reflect on the issues you feel passionate about. Think about the ways in which your career could become a channel for your sense of purpose. How can your work contribute to society and fulfill not just your own aspirations but the needs of others as well?
Take a moment to reflect on the things that really engage you. What are the tasks that make time fly by? Consider the hobbies, classes, or interests that bring you a sense of fulfillment. Think about how these passions align with your values and how they could potentially translate into a meaningful career.
Reflect on your strengths and the skills you’ve developed over time. What are you naturally good at? How have your experiences, both in and out of your formal education, contributed to your skills? Consider how that can translate to a career that resonates with you. Think about the areas where you’d like to grow and develop further.
Thanks again for spending time with me. I’ll be with you next time on “You, Me, & Ennui.”
